Moving on, let’s answer some related questions about Celsius to formally conclude if it is truly filled with rich and nutritious ingredients.
Is there a lot of sugar in Celsius?
Celsius is sugar-free!
Also, it does not contain aspartame but uses the artificial sweetener sucralose.
Aspartame is a low-calorie sweetener that is 200 times sweeter than sugar. Although aspartame is safe to consume, it is linked to various health problems such as weight gain, cancer, and cardiovascular diseases.
So, Celsius Energy uses sucralose as a sweetener. It mimics the taste of sugar without the unhealthy calories. And yes, it’s 600 times sweeter than sugar!
However, sucralose is an FDA-approved sweetener. So, no worries about safety as long as you’re consuming food and beverages containing sucralose in moderation.
Even though Celsius is sugar-free, you should be aware that the sweetener used in this beverage, sucralose is associated with side effects like increased blood pressure and glucose level.
That said, you shouldn’t be too complacent about consuming Celsius or any food and beverage that contains low-calorie sweeteners like sucralose.
Celsius Energy Drink Caffeine
Celsius Energy has a caffeine concentration that ranges from 100 to 300 mg in each can.
Not to worry as the caffeine in Celsius is still within the limit. You won’t feel any jitters or headaches if you just aim to consume one can once in a while.
The US FDA guidelines have set the caffeine limit to 400 mg a day for healthy individuals. It’s possible someone can consume a little bit more than 400 mg without any discomfort depending on caffeine tolerance.
Still, I strongly advise not going down this road to avoid any trouble.
Here’s the thing…
Caffeine is in no doubt beneficial to your health if consumed responsibly. However, everything could go south quickly if you went overboard.
For instance, if you decided to drink around two cans of Celsius Energy, chances are, you might get these symptoms:
- headaches
- jitters
- diarrhea
- rapid heartbeat
- fever
- irritability
- insomnia
If you get any of these symptoms after drinking Celsius Energy, it is best to wait it out, drink lots of water, or go for a walk to help your body metabolize caffeine quicker.
Of course, caffeine comes with benefits too such as:
- weight loss effect
- heightened alertness
- improved physical performance
- enhances thinking skills
- promotes liver health
So, to reap the benefits of caffeine in Celsius Energy, it is best to just stick to one can of this beverage at a time. If somehow you feel like drinking more, you should space out your consumption to help your body recover first before ingesting more caffeine.
For reference, here’s a table showing the caffeine content of Celsius Energy variants.
Celsius Energy | Caffeine Content |
Celsius Original | 200 mg |
Celsius On-The-Go | 200 mg |
Celsius Stevia | 200 mg |
Celsius BCAAs | 100 mg |
Celsius Heat | 300 mg |
Is Celsius a healthy energy drink?
I’d say Celsius Energy is relatively healthy as it claims to contain none of the following toxic ingredients: preservatives, high fructose corn syrup, aspartame, and artificial colors or flavors.
If Celsius’ marketing is real, then we can all agree it is a healthy energy drink!
As mentioned earlier on, my only concern is sucralose due to its side effects when used long-term.
Can Celsius make you gain weight?
No, it’s unlikely Celsius can make you gain weight.
Celsius Energy Drinks contains very few calories and the beverage itself claims to provide a thermogenic effect that is beneficial for weight loss.
The calorie count in Celsius drinks is between 10 to 15 which is really low and not enough to make someone gain weight.
The 2020 to 2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans propose the following calorie consumption for adults:
- 1600 to 2400 calories per day for women
- 2200 to 3200 calories per day for men
That said, the calories in Celsius are very minimal and can definitely not cause weight gain.
In addition, Celsius is said to contain thermogenic properties which can increase metabolism and makes your nervous system more active. This can result in burning more calories and body fats than doing exercise alone.
In reality, Celsius does the opposite – it can help you lose some weight!
On a side note:
Celsius Energy alone is not going to help you lose weight. A healthy lifestyle, a low-calorie diet, and daily exercise are the most effective ways to lose weight.
Celsius Drink Side Effects
These are the side effects of drinking too many cans of Celsius Energy:
- headaches
- tremors
- fever
- bad stomach
- palpitations
- crash
Speaking of crashes, I have mentioned my top recommendations for energy drinks that do not give crash in this article. Check it out!

Is Celsius healthier than Red Bull?
Yes, Celsius is still a healthier option over Red Bull.
From a nutritional view, Celsius is a better option for an energy drink because it contains more nutrients.
Celsius is sugar-free and has fewer calories than Red Bull which is a good thing for your overall diet and calorie consumption.
Moreover, Celsius uses more natural ingredients and is also infused with more vitamins compared to Red Bull. As a result, you’ll get more benefits from Celsius in terms of energy and mental alertness.
In contrast, Red Bull is a better choice for those looking for something with less caffeine. An 8.4 fl. oz Red Bull contains 80 mg of caffeine while Celsius packs between 100 to 300 mg of caffeine per can.
Ultimately, these energy drinks are perfect in their own way. It all comes down to your preference!
